Default oap medical insurance

hi in laws came over yesterday and have been enquiring about moving to aus. they have been told as they are oap's they have to make a one off payment of approx 26000 aus dollars each for med insurance. does anyone know what this covers.

They have been told wrong then.

They would only be eligible to migrate if they meet the balance of family test and are sponsored by their child.

The fee for the parent contributory visa is around the figure mentioned so it sounds as if someone is confused about what this means.

It is not for 'medical insurance'.......a parent visa gives access to full medicare and work rights as with any other PR visa.....it is simply the fee for this particular class of visa.

It has nothing to do with being an OAP but more whether they meet the requirements for a parent visa.

A little bit more research is needed methinks.
