Default NZ query

If a principle applicant receives a Student Visa, is there any provision anywhere for the spouse to work purely to supplement costs? If so, can the work be self employed or must the spouse apply as a LTBV applicant seperately?
Any help at all??
Thanks.

Think they can, but need to register with IRD for tax. They probably get a work
permit endorsement to allow for job seeking.

PS watch out for the student fees if you are from overseas, they are immense.

Ian thanks. You're not kidding about the fees, about $17000 per year for a BA but on the other hand how much in the UK on a loan?? And you get to be in NZ for about 5 years......with the possibility of staying...gotta be worth it!
Pat.

If you can somehow get residency you'll be entitled to get an NZ student loan; indeed
in places like Southland, where they want people, the local government even pay the
fees, so you can get a loan to cover living costs.

Ian, thanks for the info, very very interesting. I assume by residency you mean
permanent residency (which we can only get after taking the degree!!)?? I am also
making an assumption that the universities will administer this rather than the local
govt?? As far as we are concerned, we'll go anywhere if they just let us in!!! Pat.
