From NZ to OZ ?

Well just been reading the thread about Perth. Hmmm....
The main comment is about the place being boring. If you want to see the definition of boring come to NZ. Been here for over six years ...what a complete waste of time, if it wasn't for the kids having a great time. I'm all for a big change. Obviously the pull is to return to the UK but having got this far am wondering if Australia should be an option.Been over there a couple of times and believe me there is a lot more life there than here!
Looking on here, I'm usually on the NZ or Heading Back pages, I'm trying to see if you lot are finding it easier in Australia to settle than NZ.
Presume most of you go to the big cities. Any English in smaller places. We've seen a business in Armidale that looks rather nice.
Before I emigrated I thought it was awful how Brits always sought out other Brits. If you're going to live in another country you should just get on with the people..or so I thought. Now I crave the company of Brits and their British sense of humour. A lot of people are gonna jump on me and say that's wrong but that's the way I feel.

Re: From NZ to OZ ?

Are you NZ citizens? If so you can get a special category visa called a TR444 and assuming you're not ex-murderers or anything can get into Oz immediately. If you are not citizens then you have to apply for an Oz visa as if you had never left the UK.

We used to live in NZ (wife is a kiwi), we returned to the UK after 2 years as we could not make it work financially. We liked the lifestyle though in NZ more than the UK. Here in Melbourne we have found the perfect combination of NZ lifestyle and westernised economy. Wages here compare with UK wages, are apparently double NZ wages, and costs here are lower than NZ for most things. We live by a great beach, and the weather here means we can enjoy it for most of the year.

I would recommend a move from NZ to Melbourne. BTW there are loads more brits here if thats what you want.

We will be citiziens by this time next year.
Visited Melbourne last year and loved it but you know how a holiday can differ greatly from actually living somewhere. We only had a couple of days there as we went to Sydney first and then drove down and flew back from Melbourne. Unfortunately we booked accomodation at a holiday park on the internet which turned out to be a lot further from the city then we had thought. Still it was good to travel around the area where we were. Also it was a week before the major fire disaster so very, very hot.Bad timing.

You sound as though after travelling the globe, you have found your niche and are happy. That's excellent. I was getting worried after reading some posts that once you started the NZ to UK then back again or on to Canada or such you were forever to walk this earth in limbo!

Why do people immigrate to NZ instead of OZ in the first place? NZ's a cold wet boring and poor country.

What a load of rubbish! People immigrate to NZ because it is beautiful, it has Kiwis (which are mostly friendly, polite and down to earth) and the best mountain hikes this side of the world. Yes, it is a poorer country (because it isn't rich in natural resources) and it has cooler weather (which may actually be considered an advantage) but it has its own character and is not Americanised and chocked with consumerism. We now live in Sydney (having lived in London for 20+ years, then in Wellington for just over a year) and love it, but to dismiss NZ in such derogative terms is downright stupid.

I don't think you would find a great deal of difference between Perth and Auckland. Both are about the same size and there is absolutely bugger all to do in Perth. It is a toy-town town. I don't even regard it as a city.

If you want excitement Sydney really is the only option. Melbourne for its size is rather boring I find.
