Default NZ Medicals Question

Hello again,

Just another question about NZ medicals.

We have had it confirmed that you DO NOT need HIV tests for NZ, even though the panel doctors said we did and wanted to charge us £30.00 each for the privilage !!!

We know that the chest x-ray results will be given to us immediately but what happens about the actual examination results.

I ask this because you have to give a couple of other tests that will need sending to the local hospital and the results take about 7 days.

1) Does the panel doctor keep your paper work until he receives these other results and then post the whole lot to you or

2) do you come away with the papers and he then just sends the test results in the mail??

No doubt someone can answer this for me.

Thanks again everyone.

Best wishes

Hi Pippa

I don't know if the NZ and AUS proceedures are the same, but hope this helps. We are heading for Aus and finally had our
x-rays 3 weeks ago and than our medicals last week. The hospital sent our x-rays and report to the panel doctor so it was there when we went for the medical. The doctor holds onto the xray report and medical report until the blood tests arrive back and then we'll be able to pick them up and get them off to AHC.
Good luck

we got a call when the blood test were in and picked everything up the same day
you see the results of the blood test and the medical is just a questions and answer with the doc so you will not have to wait for anything there

For us the doctor looked at the x-rays and told us the result there and then. He
filled in the medical form and gave it to us.

Hi,I think you will find your application will bounce back if you do not have hiv
test results. The people who examine the applications are the only people who
decide. We had to have them and thats was only a short time ago. "Pippa"

Not normally true for NZ, the medical just does not require an HIV test and NZIS staff are aware of this - of course after your medical NZIS can ask for *anything* on the basis of the doctor's report, eg if your answers to the doctor's questions give lead to doubts about any aspect of your health there can be a requirement for a follow up examination/ specialist report. Maybe if in your case Svend it was required you did not give a clear enough 'No' on the verbal HIV question? Or there was some similar doubt?

New Zealand does not require HIV testing (least it didn't last year when we came) but
they do test for Syphillis, which our doc had never seen in 20 years of practice!

Just to reiterate, absolutely NO HIV test but yes, a syphyllis test. The medical results and x-rays were sent to us 4 days after our medical (had to wait for blood test results). We could see the x-rays but the report was in a sealed envelope (sealed in way that you couldn't steam it open!!!). I took results of gynae problem with me and the doctor kept hold of these and collated them with our medical report - we have never been told the results of the medical - the doctor mentioned a couple of things that may be a problem but basically it is suck it and see!!
