NZ Citizenship / passports

Has anyone here been throuh the process of getting NZ citizenship/a NZ passport? I've got my NZ residency & will be applying for NZ cit. in the not too distant future. I've heard different things from people - 1 couple said that at the interview with DIA, they were told that once granted a NZ passport they were expected to live/remain in NZ for a year otherwise they reserved the right to revoke it (their citizenship) presumably to discourage people from leaving & going straight to Oz. The citizenship application form also has something on it that asks what your future intentions are.

Anyone been told the same thing? and does anyone know what the current processing times are for citizenship applications?

Cheers

Re: NZ Citizenship / passports

There is an intention requirement for NZ citizenship, and if you give the impression
that you are planning to move to Australia, your application could be refused.

That said, intentions can change after the event.

I'm not sure how easy it would be for them to revoke your citizenship if you left
after naturalisation. They would I think need to prove your intentions were false at
the time you applied for citizenship. It's probably bad form to head for Australia
the day after you get citizenship, if you leave it a few months it becomes a lot
harder to show you were planning to do so in advance.

You should remember that since Feb 2001 you would no longer get permanent residence
rights in Australia anyway.
