Default NZ building land

I have seen a lot of building land for sale on realenz, a number of them are around 1/2 acre for $30,000, Dunedin. Does anyone know if that would include building permission? Or are they trying to sell off land in the hope that someone will take a chance and get permission once bought?

Most areas are already zoned for use, so it should be relatively straightforward to get the go-ahead to build. It's also quite cheap. The planning authorities just need to see your plans and do the usual things like giving neighbours time to object etc.

Dunedin - NZD30K for a plot is quite possible in a lot of town. We live in a nice but not posh part of town though most of us do get sea views - about NZD75K for typical 650 sq m plot. About double that in the most popular parts of town, eg Maori Hill. Stunning views - more expensive, natch.
