(NZ) Bad time of year for job search-true?

Hello!

nukiwi.com's October newsletter addresses problem of upcoming summer holidays in NZ being bad time to look for jobs. (sign up for the newsletter at http://www.nukiwi.com/nukiwisignup.htm - Should receive an e-mail copy pretty much immediately).

Please say it ain't so! We've made it over all the passmark hurdles so far, and now ANOTHER unexpected obstacle on the road to the big PR prize? (And, don't forget, we're also coming up to high-season for air fares/accomodation)

Wonder why this brings to mind a Polish animated short film I saw years ago, wherein runners (hurdlers) on a race track take off down the track at the starter gun signal - race progresses quite normally at first, but then, along the way, shots begin to ring out and one by one the hurdlers collapse along the track, apparently shot dead. New race begins, different hurdlers this time - all starts normally again, then same thing: shots fired, hurdlers collapse dead. Few more races like this. Then, fourth race or so, same thing, starts normally, shots ring out, hurdlers shot and collapse along the way - BUT, this time one hurdler manages to keep going, keep going, dodging the shots, keep going, keep going, keep going. Hurdler finally makes it to the finish line and firing ceases. Short pause for breath, and then someone comes over and hands him a gun. He takes it, and steps over a sand bag where to either side of him are other hurdlers, well-settled in prone position and all with guns balanced on sand bags, aimed down the track. He positions himself behind sand bag and aims HIS gun down race track. Then starter's gun goes off and, after briefest pause, hurdler starts shooting down the track...

Beginning to wonder now if we can really afford to risk running in this race. Anyone have anything optimistic to say about the job search?

The job situation is very good in NZ at the moment, esp in IT where if you have good skills you'll be right, which seems to be a bit different to everywhere else for some reason.

People do take their holidays over Christmas/New Year, like in the UK, with the added bonus that it's obviously summer. The place doesn't shut down though.

This time of year also sees an influx of kiwi's coming home and people emigrating but I personally think the job market is very strong, depending on what you do of course.

Without wanting to state the obvious though, you should be prepared for a period of job hunting and bring required dosh.
