which nursing home for Alzheimers/Dementia patient is best in Perth
Does anybody have experience with the topic? Positive or bad experience, SOR or NOR.
My father-inlaw has been put into a nursing home by my sister-inlaw. Her only concern was that the facility is close to her (65km from us). We suggested two other places, which we know well but she rejected any other options, didn't even had a look at others.
Since the old man is in the facility he has been given medication 'to knock' him out. He was in transisional care at another facility where he was given twice medication to cool him down, but otherwise he was lively, bubbly and walked around. Not anymore. He is a vegetable now.

How awful for you.
I've just started volunteering at the Brightwater aged-care home in Joondalup and I'm really impressed with the place. I don't know if it's the right level of care for your FIL but, if it's typical of the way Brightwater does things, the other homes might be worth a look.

To start with who has enduring powerof attorney? if it is her, then you may have little say in what happens and where he is placed... Also I have seeen pts go to less good facilities to wait for a space at their prefered choice...
I KNOW some facilities oversedate pts to make them "manageable" especially if they have staffing issues... Either too few, or not specialised in dementia...

thanks for your comment. I have contacted Brightwater and they will send me information on 'The Village' in Inglewood. However I was told they have a waiting list. Will see. Unfortunately we don't have EPA, we only hope that my SIL recognices that things possibly are not right.
