Nursery Nurses

Hi

Just wondering what the job situation is for Nursery Nurses. Salary etc. A friend was thinking about relocating to Perth.

Hi, it depends on what your qualifications are. I worked as a child care worker in Australia for around 8 years until I got my teaching degree. The pay isn't great, it is still one of the most underpaid jobs. Child care workers in Australia get paid less than garbage collectors, bar workers and waiters. That is why I got a teaching qualification, better pay and work conditions.

Good Luck though, there are a lot of jobs in Australia in the child care profession, and Nannying might also be something you could look into, I worked as a Nanny throughout my uni degree and loved it.

All the best, x

It's not well paid.

If you are not qualified then wages are as low as around $18 per hour. If you are qualified I think that increases to around $22 per hour but those wages also depend on how old you are.

There are usually plenty of positions on offer in the paper each week. Just about every centre wants someone who is qualified. There are good centres and bad.

You will be called a Qualified Childcare Worker - Nursery Nurse sounds nicer.

NNEB is equivalent to Diploma in Children's Services.

To get NNEB assessed http://www.communities.wa.gov.au/chi...3PACKFEB08.pdf

Ignore this http://jobsearch.gov.au/findajob/sea...e=81%&Occ=U2Y5 there's loads of jobs advertised in the local press.

Australia is so short of childcare workers they will pay fees to study for Dip and Adv. Dip http://www.deewr.gov.au/EarlyChildho...fTAFEfees.aspx

Unfortunately, the NNEB doesn't qualify for PR status. Need to be a kinder teacher minimum. See Teacher pre-primary http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf

http://www.myfuture.edu.au/services/...0&ASCO=241111A should be able to get RPL (recognition of prior learning) from NNEB so no need to do all of teacher course.

In South Australia the TAFE course to become a Qualified Childcare worker is 2 years so I would say that is probably the case in Victoria too.
