First you need to get your skills assessed then apply for visa then register with nursing board then get a job then move or like me do all those but move and get a job when u get here, I got 2 jobs within 6 days of getting here :)

I would see if you qualify for a permanent residency visa first. If you do, this is a much better idea than sponsorship.
Check out the Immi website http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/

It takes a while & costs money but is worth it!
Good luck:fingerscrossed:

I am doing what you are Bethnee but I do not need a visa as I am an Aussie with UK qualifications, the nursing council/ registration board changed as of the 1st of July 2010. I have to prove my English and its recommended that you use the IELTS which is valid for 2 years from taking it, I also have to show transcript from uni, and wait for pin number to be registered, Queensland can take a while. Jobs are apparently easy to find and I have been told when it gets closer to moving I will have no problem lining up a job. I would recommend that you use the link for the state you are interested in moving to and contacting the Nursing council in that state. One of the major improvements with the changes from July is that once registered you can work Australia wide where as before you had to register in each state. I have tried to find the link that will supply details and costs of the process in Queensland but my computer is playing up and will not allow me to open an extra window.

i was confused about the ILETS had it confirmed that i dont need to do it as my first language is english and i have done my nurse training in the UK. which is a relief going to get this registration sorted i think first. i havent worked out what the cost is for registering as it mentions different cost depending on when you register after the registration year has started which was May.

Hi Bethnee,
I have been emailing both the new dept that takes care of registering nurses and Queensland Health and the nursing council in Qld and unless you completed secondary schooling plus your nursing qualifications in English you will have to do an IELTS exam.
I am a very mature student/ nurse and when I left school it was encouraged for girls to leave at 15, I have undertaken other courses but this is the first university qualification. I did TAFE in Oz and have done 2 Btec NVQ's and that is not sufficent to get away without doing the IELTS.
I have a few links if you want them.

i am a mature student too i just qualified in january, i did finish my secondary education though i just went off and did other things after college. the links would be greatly appreciated, any help with sorting this registration is greatly appreciated. ive got the forms to fill out just need to get all the relevant documents and get them certified then find out the cost of registering to pay the correct amount then post them. i think!!!!
we are looking at tasmania and queensland at the moment keep changing our minds. at least you only have to register with the one nursing council to work any where in australia.
