Nurse UK Registration

Nurse UK Registration
Due to a job offer for me in Australia, my wife, who is a registered nurse in England, intended to take a career break for two years to accompany me to Australia. She has contacted the NMC to ask a few questions about how to renew her registration so that she is still registered with the NMC when we return and therefore able to start her job again. But, surprisingly, the NMC have sent an automated reply that they no longer give advice on registration issues. I wonder therefore if someone has been in this situation can advise on the following:
1. What will happen if my wife is in Australia when it is my time to renew? Can renewals be done from outside the UK?
2. Can any nursing work done in Australia be counted as hours of practice towards the necessary 450 hours/3 years?
3. Are there any restrictions on the type of learning activity that meet the requirements? Could she take a nursing CPD course in Australia, for example?
4. If my wife applies for registration in May 2013 (her next registration date), does this mean that she will be registered for the next three years and that she will not be required to register again until 2016?
Thank you for any answers.
