Nurse coming to Oz - many questions!
I am coming to travel Australia and work as a Nurse at the end of 2012. I am thinking ahead and wondering when I will need to start the process of registering in Oz as a Nurse, and applying for my visa?
I know that I will need to do an English test - does anyone know where I can do this in the UK, or how I find out?
I was advised by a friend who is emigrating to NZ soon, to use this site as a starting point, so I hope that someone out there can provide some advice, or point me in the right direction.
Now I don't know whether I would be better off coming on a working visa, then if I decided to stay longer, gain a sponsored visa perhaps, once i'm there and have a job offer, or are there other options open to me?
Any advice would be most welcome!
Looking forward to hearing some replies

Hi if you have your pin number it pays to start your registration with Oz about 6 to 12 months before hand, due to AHPRA? taking quite a while to do the registration process, a police check here is also needed. its now country wide not state by state which will help if you want to travel while there. You maybe able to get away without the english exam stuff if you completed your secondary education in English plus your training. You will also need a transcript from the university where you trained stating the hours in class and also on placement. There is a nursing board on here that will help with advice and stuff ... I think its under employment but have supplied a link you may find useful

If your secondary schooling and nursing training were in an English-speaking country you no longer need to do the IELTS. This changed recently.

Hi I am in currently in the process of applying for the 176 visa to emigrate to oz as a registered nurse. You do have to do the IELTS test to pass the skills assessment to work as a registered nurse. You need to take the academic test and need to achieve an overall score of 7.0 in each band. Good luck with it it took me 4 attempts, and Im English born and bred.
