Hey, that's much appreciated! I'm free any evening of that week and don't mind travelling. If you've got any ideas of a decent pub then I'll take you up on that :)

Hi everyone. Thought I'd reply to this thread as people seem a bit more optimistic and realistic about such a big move on this thread. I moved back here over 4 years ago. Having dual nationality meant that I didn't have many of the problems that other people do. Once you get over here you will realise you have made the right decision. Even though the job is the same the world over its nice having sunshine most of the time. NSW has some weird and wonderful ways, but if you have the right attitude you won't go far wrong. I actually got knocked back by them when I first come over. This really surprised me but it turned out for the best, as I ended up getting a job with one of the other states. I was on more money and straight in at ICP with advanced skills. Once you get here on your visa there is nothing to stop you looking at other options inside Oz. A lot of other places have moved past NSW in both skills and pay. If anyone want help or discuss stuff just drop me a Pm. Happy to meet up for a beer as well.

Cheers Ambo Pete. I think you're right about the positive/realistic attitude on here and find people don't let themselves get carried away by the 'bad' or the 'good' aspects.
Contacted today and I own my firm 36hrs between now and when I leave.....

Oh and to anyone in the know I was wondering what the structure was for the induction course first week or so especially just to know what I'm, sorry WE'RE, in for.

Thanks guys. Just remember that NSW is huge (the size of Western Europe). Sydney has a lot going for it but it is expensive. Forty minutes up or down the coast there are unspoilt beaches with more affordable house prices. Even the regional cities like Wollongong and Newcastle have fantastic beaches and less congestion. The hardest thing is getting over, once you are here the options are there for you.

Over here in sydney at the moment and just had my interview and have been offered the job of Specialist Paramedic!!:rofl: They gave me an info sheet explaining the recent pay dispute and what my basic wage would be as well as base station.
Very friendly and informative. You have to get the Light Rigid within 2 months if coming on a permanent visa and the shifts are changing to 12 hours, 2 days,2 nights then 5 off. 2 30 min breaks in 12 hr shift with 1 hour payment if disturbed. I was told that with the 12-13% pay increase for ICP that $80,000 if still very realistic plus extra if you want OT.

you should have said you were here at rozelle - you could have come over to the education centre and said hello! Where have you been posted?

Hi Chris, They gave me the options of SAC, Paramatta or Bankstown and I chose them in that order of preference so who knows? How is the induction going? I would have called in if I had realized you were there.

Thanks Phil, Best of luck!

Hi I am new on here so please be gentle! At present i work as a Paramedic in Cheshire for NWAS and have done for 22 years now, i have been out to Sydney HQ for interveiw in november, had medical etc and was offered a job at level of Advanced Diploma of Paramedic Science , basically ICP (Paramedic specialist) , it is unconditional , as i need to complete the following-
1. induction course of 8 weeks
2. on road practice for 10 weeks at P1 level
3. one day formal VIVA panel examination, concentrating of purley paramedical and pharmacological skills
4. on road paramedic practice for further 10 weeks
If all goes well i will qualify as ICP at 28 weeks. I have been allocated a permanent station after that period of training which will be Paramatta as i will be living in the northern beaches (Mona Vale) district , its about 40 mins drive time .
My wife has her brother living there so we would like to settle with the keeds near to rellies.
Rental is expensive in the Sydney area, ranging from $600 upwards per week so dont let anyone tell you Oz is cheap, coz it aint!! We are due to move out in feb 09 as i`ve had to put back my start date from oct 08 due to house selling problems !!

Starting salary basic (pre pay award) is $52,000 at p1 level , which normally i believe reaches approx $63,000 gross
I have read all the above threads and thank you all for your info, it puts all in prospective . I hope my info has helped anyone who is thinking of joining NSWAS .
What i would like to ask is the guys and girls that are already onboard with NSWAS in your own opinions is it worth the move and if anyone has gone through the 28 week probabtion period ...whats it like?
thanks again...Paul.

I was told that due to the amount of years already in post, that the starting salary would be the top. i.e. $63,000.

Costs wise there's a similar post from Smurf a few pages back. If you've got any further questions i'll do my best to confuse the hell out of you!

Hong Kong, if i've read your post correctly, for £150? Sounds like a bargain to me!

Cheers, Jon

hi, im new to this site and after some info if anyone can help?

I am an EMT with 4 years post qualification experience. I posted an application off to NSWA back in June and have not heard anything back from them, also e-mailed them last week to see if they have received my application and no e-mail either? Does this sound like bad news????

i am due to visit friends in NSW early November and was hoping to get an interview whilst i was there?

Hi gtg, I have found that the ASNSW can be a little slow in replying to emails. It seems Australian's are a little more laid back and less reliant on email. They seem to prefer a phone call. If you give them a call, I am sure you will find them to be very helpful. I have spoken to them a few times now with regards to my application and they have been excellent.

By applying as an EMT, you will be unlikely to get sponsorship. ASNSW usually require EMT's to arrange their own visa's etc and then apply for a job once they are settled in Australia. As far as I am aware, it is only SR Para's who qualify for the sponsorship.
