Oh God I so don't miss The Sun. Here's the story put another way

Hmm still not sure what I make of it though. It's a difficult one.

It's been all over the news here.
I was wondering how the UK press would react.

The scum should have been left to rot!

me either (not that i ever read it after they put a story about diedre being in prison - a fictional coronation st story - on the front page and you had to go to page nine before you found out china's leader deng xiao ping had died, but i digress). i was passed the link from a friend. the bbc report is obviously better.

Interesting how the Sun says: "he won’t even have to sign the sex offenders’ register here"

yet the BBC says: "he will be put on the sex offenders' register once he arrives in the UK"

I suppose it just means he doesn't have to go and sign in on a regular basis, although I reckon they will keep an eye on him.

If he had become an Australian Citizen, they would probably have kept him in a WA jail for life, but it's a simple case of: "He's had his visa cancelled. He is not an Australian citizen, therefore he leaves"

It's the same risk anyone who doesn't take out citizenship takes....

Though in this case, doesnt it leave him a 'free-man' rather than one in jail for life

That facial hair is grounds for a barred entry alone. I wonder what the sun misreported, miscontrued and failed to report.

The facts he's reoffended every time he's been released says something too. God it's one of those scenarios where there just isn't an answer.

I think that this is a very serious matter and displays the difference with Australia and the UK.
Australia - Takes a hard line and deports someone who is still believed to be a "moderate" danger to children
UK - Puts him on the sex offenders register but other than that he has no restrictions and is free to set up home anywhere in the UK. Would you want him in your town, near your children.

At best people like this who offer even a slight risk of re-offending should be locked up for life or disposed of. I read a story last night about the lady who was murdered in the jewellery shop in Nottingham. Very similar story. The scumbag that killed her had been released with conditions but had failed to turn up for appointments on 7 of the 13 meetings, had removed his electronic tag and rather than immediately arrest him and throw him back in jail the authorities sent him a summons to appear in court in 6 weeks time. During that time he carried out an armed robbery and killed an innocent lady.

Wonder why we all want to get out of the UK. Can the last one out please turn off the lights !!

Apparently, you guys still have him. He didn't leave after all but I don't know why At least the Aussies want him extradited immediately. In the UK he would have come out of prison and civil liberties would have jumped on the case and said he must stay here. It is the only country he has known for 40 years and he might get his hand slapped if he went back to Aus

Advocating the use of the death penalty advocates taking the lives of the innocent. Justice is not perfect and cannot be made perfect.
