We're heading for Mandurah in July, and will be checking out Halls Head after hearing how nice it is. Check out www.flyingcompass.com - there are people posting there who live in Perth and other areas.

Hi all,

We're heading for Rockingham or Waikiki, but we did spend time in Perth itself and Freemantle. Freo is a wonderful, charming city which is real close to Perth but has a real chilled out feel to it so you might want to check it out. Don't know about the northern parts, but Joanne's mentioned that.

good luck wherever you end up!!

We're off to Perth in June. We loved the northern beaches area, we still need to look at the south coast. We are considering the Perth Hills - the only drawback could be loss of the sea breeze (Freo doctor) and fire hazard??? Any comments on this area of Perth would be appreciated.

Hi ALI J
We stopped in Kelmscott near Armadale , which sits at the bottom of the hills. We went dec through to january and boy did we have some hot days . Yes there is the lack of breeze that comes in , we had to go to the shops and i said " lets walk " well nice going but coming back laiden down with bags and no fluids we all nearly dehydrated , whoops wont make that mistake again . But the hills were lovely i have to say but we still love the north

Perth, hmm.. only lived there all my life

if you can afford it, go for someplace either on, or relatively near the beach. Or,
if you still want a cool breeze, live south of the river, in say, south perth, como,
rivervale, applecross, kewdale (where I lived), victoria park...

see, ya get the northerly winds blowing over the river, and the wind cools.. same
with the easterlies, and the westerlies are just beautiful. but for ultimate
pleasure, fremantle is the place to be... just not too close to the harbour, because
on wednesdays and fridays, ya get the smell of the sheep/cattle being loaded onto
the boats.

if ya want north of river, go balcatta, trigg, scarborough, north beach, cottesloe,
swanbourne and those areas... very nice.

HTH

thanks for all the replies it seems that both North & south are nice so i guess it will be best to check it all out before we decide. Everyone seems to love fremantle but is it not really expensive there?
