Nights out in Sydney.

Moved to Sydney 4 months ago but not spent much time going out in the city. In a few weeks have 3 friends visiting from the UK and wanted to take them in the city for a night out (SAT Night). Not that fussed about clubbing but can anyone recommend any bars with good atmosphere, live music on or playing good indie music!! Newtown has been recommended?

Thanks guys

I heard The Basement is really good for live music? It's on Pitt St, I believe, towards Circular Quay. And there are heaps of nice places along Darling Harbour. Try looking through the current month's Time Out! It should give you some ideas.

Dang, I do miss Sydney.

The bungalow on Kings street warf is good and there is another place above it that is open late and has music and a dance floor but not sure about live music though.

I know you say you want to take them into the city but we went to the Mean fidler (old windsor road near rouse hill) a little while ago and there was a live band on and the atmosphere was fantastic, we had such a great night but it does get very very busy but as I don't know your location I don't know if this would be near to you or not. The Rocks has livley bars with lots of live music and is easy to get to from the Circular Quays, either that or go down to Darling Harbour.

We had a good night out on the Paddle Steamer that does nightly tours of the harbour - they will like it if they have never been. They do tickets where you get all your booze included, plus meal and show.

I usually hate the tacky shows that they put on at these things, but it was very good. The lead male dancer is one of the pros on 'Dancing with the Stars' TV show. The Titanic act was very funny!

Plus you will be back in Darling Harbour in time to carry on to other later evening bars.
