Default Nice places to live within 30 minutes drive of Brissie airport?

My husband and I are moving to Oz next year. He is an avionics engineer and is hoping to get a job at Brisbane Airport. Just so we can start to get an idea of house prices, can anyone recommend any "nice" areas to live? Nice to us would include not being in the middle of nowhere, preferably near a beach but not necessary, good commute to the airport (no more than 30 minutes), shops, cafes, bars etc. within a 15 minutes drive away. Also if anyone has any areas that they feel aren't worth researching please feel free to say why!

Many thanks,

Gill

Manly on the bayside. Its doesn't have a beach but it is on the waterfront, nice cafe's and restaurants and small shops and it's only 35 mins into Brisbane on the train.

Woody point, just before redcliffe. Just about every facility including beach 30 mins from airport, plus the bridge out to the peninsula is having a massive upgrade as is the road to the airport. Plus the woody point foreshore/village is undergoing a multi million dollar revamp including new pier.

We are at Wakerley which is about 5 minutes inland from Manly. Hubby works at the airport and it takes him about 20-25 minutes each way, depending on how good the M1 is (varies day-to-day). There's no big beaches around here but a few scattered small sandy bays which are enough for us and our little one. We are close to fairly large retail areas such as Capalaba and Cannon Hill and the train from Manly will get you into the CBD in about 40 minutes (with lots of stops though!). We are very happy here and plan to stay in this area for as long as we can afford to!!!

In one of the fairly new complexes opposite the Mayfair shopping precinct. Been here just over 2 months now - ticks all the boxes.

Oh, I know where you mean. A friend of mine (POM) is moving there too soon. He told me that apparently, 'Red-Belly Blacks' like to bask in the sunshine by the pond there so be careful.

We live in Habitat Wakerley.

Welcome to the 'burb'....

Have you visited the park inside the Moss Vale estate (with the pond etc)? It's very nice, especially for your little 'un.

Clayfield, Nundah, Northgate, Wavell Heights, Kedron - all about 20 mins to airport. No dealing with the Gateway bridge which can be a nightmare at various times of the day (plus that is a toll road).

Bulimba, Balmoral, Hawthrone are all great areas and at pretty much all times of the day only 5 - 10 mins drive to the Gateway Bridge tolls....then depending on the time of day that's when the fun starts.

If I am travelling to the airport (from Balmoral) very early morning or late evening it normally takes me 20mins tops.

No beaches but these areas tick all the other boxes....on the river - Citycat into the city, great restaurants at Bulimba. They are pricey though and you'd get a lot more house for your $ elsewhere.

We are in Wavell Heights and it is not far from the airport and is a lovely suburb. I also like the houses in Northgate.
