You can pay class 2. Have a look at booklet NI38 - page 9.

I was also after the answer to that question.

I have now been informed by my accountant that to qualify for Class 2 you must have been making either class 1 or class 2 NI contributions in the week before you left the UK.

Of course she may be wrong, she cost me tax last year :)

And before you ask why I don't sack her, I can't - I'm married to her...

I dont want to be shot here, maybe I misread or misunderstood, but I thought the recent european ruling stated that paying NI contributions alone from abroad did not entitle you to a full pension?

Is there a way round this or did I misunderstand it?

Don't worry, we won't shoot you :fingerscrossed:

You can still get a full pension, what the ruling means is that the UK is still allowed to then freeze your pension at the level you first claimed at for life. So you get no annual increases like other pensioners do.
