Hi guys congrats on the Visas recentlyobtained.
I'm booked to fly on the 14th of June to Perth where my wife has a job offer and I'm due to get started going for my A'class electricians license.

The first question I haven't really found an easy answer to is on the tax we may or may not have to pay if we take money into australia.
I think that we'll be going with appox 50000$Au which I'm going to look to tranfer to an ANZ account shortly before we fly (hopefully the rate will head up nearer 2.5$-1pound!).
Do we have to pay tax on these savings?
Thanks
Gareth

Re: next step october thread

hello,

Can I get some advice please? we are moving out of our house on 25th may then visiting family in Scotland. We thought we might go to new Zealand for a month to wait for our visas to be granted (if we haven't got them by then). Does this sound do-able? We have 2 children (aged 2 and 11 years). But what if we don't get the visa - we will have to come home with our tail between our legs. I'm starting to panic as I also give up work in 2 weeks and just trying to think of a plan.

As long as I don't have to join the october 2007 thread I'll be okay!

Karen

Gonna keep an eye on this thread, we are off next Tuesday & have decided to replace all our posessions in Oz rather than ship them. Other than sorting cash & a place to live, we haven't really found that many things we need to do that we can't do when we arrive, have we missed something?! Seriously though, it isn't as difficult as some may make it out to be & if we can share tips on this thread then it should stop some of those 'Sh*t, I never even thought of that!' moments.

p.s. The derby is back on again next season Aston, you wanna meet up ;)

Well we have booked the flights to Perth (fly out 10th June) we got an email confirming baggage allowance. Our 15 tea chests were collected yesterday, so we are sitting in the house with no music, no dvds, the sky gets switched off tomorrow ,so damn it it looks like I will actually have to have a conversation with my hubby!!We have the bank accounts and money transfers accounts set up, we`ve written to daughters school asking for her school records. I contacted Child benefit and cancelled that (it will stop the first Monday after we go - they now have an international liason dept for people moving abroad 0845 3021454) I have filled out a P85 all ready for when I get my P45 on leaving work so I can claim any tax back (always worth a try). I`ve contacted the TV license people and they`ve told me to call back in a few weeks to cancel my license/ direct debit and claim some money back. I also contacted working family tax people but they said to call 2 wks before we go to cancel!! I stopped my monthly plan with Specsavers and instead oredred a load of contacts from www.contactlenses.co.uk - works out half the price and I have 6 month supply to last me until we get sorted. Still loads of odds & ends to sort but I am making headway!!;)
