Default Newspapers/The Press - WA v UK?

Is it true that the Western Australian press reports ABSOLUTELY EVERY crime occurence, whilst, say the London Evening Standard, only reports stories with a crime 'twist' or a crime with a unusal story behind it? Therefore, loads of daily crimes go unreported in the Evening Standard's daily press, non presss worthy, whilst in WA, EVERYTHING is reported? This, no doubt, will or can impair everyone's view on what really goes on in either City?

P.S. Could only think of the London Evening Standard being comparable to the Western Australian?!

I'd say it's driven by 'newsvalues'. On a 'black news day' (with few stories) the column inches have to be filled. (If only as to not leave a part page blank)

Also you'd have to be aware of the LEN having a different target demographic (Londoner's who buy evening papers) than the WA (metro Perth dwellers, folks in outback WA and to a lesser extent intra state westralians.)

Not at all the Western Australian reports very little of whats going on , 70% of the paper is adverts, its has very little news in it. There are at lest 3 pages every day of personals for Brothels , escorts and massage joints .

You're right about the ads PB, and their "personal" ads don't leave much to the imagination, do they?

There are good news items in there too of course, but more often than not, they pick the worst gloom and doom for the headlines, just grabs the reader's attention better I suppose, same as any other newspaper, national or otherwise.

No I affraid they do not but this is mining Town and its a big industry in Perth , I do not buy the West apart from Saturday for the job vacancies.
The only other paper is the Australian a far better read , but very inward looking the local rag has little to offer.

This may be true, in a relative sense, but I doubt that ABSOLUTELY everything is reported by the WA.

HOWEVER and unfortunately PB is dead right here - the standard of journalism/media/tv etc is pretty dire in Aus. If I was compiling a list of pros and cons it would probably be my number one gripe. Excluding the tabloids, which are still well written sh*t, I'd have to go with the UK press (e.g. Guardian, Observer, Times, Telegraph etc) as probably the best in the English speaking world - even where you don't agree with their editorial slant they are still damn good. Similarly with the TV - news here in Aus is particularly bad (with the exception of SBS; but nothing to write home about by comparison with the UK).

So would be migrants prepare yourselves for lousy press and worse TV; However this, for us at least, is an inconvenience and does not seriously affect our lifestyle or our occupations. Also, fortunately there is always the internet to fall back on.

Look the local paper has very little in it and these pages make the best reading , me and lady wife had to have some of the words explained not very well up on the terms.
The sex industry in Perth is one of the biggest employers and seeing that the drug trade feeds off it it keeps a lot in work, the miners blow big money on R&R.
Never paid for these services but seen loads of Brothels etc and been in bars with skimpy barmaids and strippers , a lot do this but have to say these ale houses do not apeal to me, the girls look like they have just finished doing their homework .
I will stick to the golf its cheaper and more fun , the good lady wife sorts the other stuff out when required.
