The news we've been waiting for.
Hi to everyone,
Well I phoned AHC London this morning to enquire about our application, the phone was answered by a helpful voice I gave her the file number which she tapped into the computer, and before I could say anything else she said "Oh yes its granted" then there was a silence (while she checked the details) I expected her to say "Oh no..sorry thats a mistake" but she didnt she went on to say that we had until 16 April 2003 to activate the visa, and that was that, we then discussed passports, she told me there was a three week turnaround sending them by post so we decided to go down to London with our passports, at least we'll get to see Aus House which has lived in our imaginations since we applied in Jan 2001.
If it helps anyone whose waiting ours was approved back in the middle of April, the main applicant (Katie) is a registered nurse, so if you've been waiting over 12 months and havent phoned too many times, maybe a polite call might yield some clues for you.
Chris.

Re: The news we've been waiting for.
What wonderful news Chris and Katie
May I ask you what phone number did you ring to ask for the information, all I get is the answer phone, giving long lists of things that really can't help us. We were abit dismayed to see three week turnaround for postal passports. We were requested to send my husbands passport back with the extra information they needed, this we did 3rd May, does this mean that he has been granted his visa and it will take three weeks for them to return the passport with the visa stamped in it?
He want's to hand in his notice but without knowing for sure we are in limbo.
Be grateful for a reply, I feel like l'm falling apart, talk about drama queen, once again well done, Oz here we come!!

Re: The news we've been waiting for.
Congratulations, it's a fab feeling isn't it?
We went to Oz house to apply for my son's Australian Passport (for some bizarre reason they insist on the person applying coming in person to lodge it...didn't think it wise to send a 2 year old alone from Yorkshire to London, so we went along too!!). Anyway, it's a really nice building, very imposing but highly identifiable by the huge crest of kangaroo and emu up near the roof...cool. Also it is dead opposite the church of St Clements (which actually plays the tune 'oranges and lemons' just before it chimes!!!) and near the court that overturns wrongful stuff (I know I know, I should know it and the name is on the tip of my tongue...but I just can't remember what it's called!!)
You'll have a good day out anyway!!
love sophia x

Re: The news we've been waiting for.
Thanks again to everyone for your replies, Lynn Ann, the phone number should be on top of the letter you received when you first applied or on any AHC letters you've got, if you cant find it let me know by e-mail and I'll dig it out for you.
