From this week's Mandurah Mail:

"Peel on Show"
The Peel region was recently showcased at the Emigrate Show, Sandown. Peel Development Commission funded an officer to represent the Peel and South West regions to highlight the job opportunities and lifestyle advantages of emigrating to South Western Australia. "This was an excellent opportunity for Peel to highlight the high quality of lifestyle, close proximity to Perth and the real job and investment prospects to visitors to the expo who were considering emigrating," said PDC chief executive Maree De Lacey.

Anyone see this stall at the show?

And another article, relating to the new housing development in the north of Mandurah, which has been talked about in other threads:

"Environment award for Lakelands"
The Lakelands estate has won the 2005 Housing Industry Association GreenSmart award for the Development of the Year. From its beginnings as former farmland encompassing major lakes and wetlands, the emphasis at the Peet & Co. Ltd estate has been on enhancing the natural environment through preservation and carefully designed conservation areas. The natural features of the Lakelands Estate site include Black Swan Lake and the southern part of Paganoni Lake. The estate has been carefully planned to protect and sustain the environment of lakes and wetlands, its swans and other wildlife through nature reserves and a program of rehabilitation.
Facilities at the estate will include a proposed combined community centre and land information building, a public high school, primary schools, rail station and a major shopping centre. The first stage of the Baptist College opened for the 2005 school year.

Although this estate is not on the coast (which has its own disadvantages re wind, sand, etc) it is only a 5 minute drive away from lovely, long, sandy beaches. It's worth having a look if you are likely to be commuting to Perth for work, want to be on the right side of town for the new train & bus stations, or want to be near college & uni campuses, as well as being close to all other facilities such as hospital, primary schools, shopping centre, etc.

When we first went to have a look over a year ago, such was the interest that people were camping out in their cars for two nights to secure the best blocks of land. There was an open day a few weeks back, a chance for the public to see the lovely nature reserves and lakes, and go through some of the show homes. To give you an idea, the average 600m2 blocks are selling for around $130,000 and to build your average 4 bed home would cost $120,000 upwards.

The nearby suburb of Meadow Springs is also selling new blocks of land. Come August, the newly-expanded shopping centre there will open with a $3million Target store and a range of other stores, providing employment for local people.

I saw the stand at sandaown and picked up an information pack, I was quite interested , but it was marketed well. I keep hearing that region is so isolated though, I may be wrong but it does look like a nice area to atart if any, loads of mining and engineering work available there, from what I could make out.
