Default New Year's Eve, Perth

Hi

Does anybody know of any good events on New Year's Eve in Perth?

We will have my dad and step-mum here on a visit and they want to go out somewhere

I know there is something in the streets of Northbridge, but don't fancy that really. The Rendezvous at Scarborough was nearly the choice, until we found out that you have to book a minimum of 2 nights if you want to stay over - at $125 a head for the party and then $200 a room per night that is a bit out of the price range! :scared:

Something similar where we could stay over would be good. Thought about Burswood, but can't see anything on their website for New Years Eve.

Cheers for any help.

Hi,
We did the Scarborough thing in 2003/2004 it was brilliant but I don't remember it being that expensive, it must gone up like everything else over here. In 2004/2005 we spent new year on the Mandurah foreshore. This was good for us with two kids as there were rides, street entertainers, loads of families barbecuing/picnicking etc, there were singers and magicians and for the grown ups there was a fantastic salsa band. The atmosphere was brilliant and the night ended with a spectacular fireworks display. This is a free event so we just went along to check it out with plans to move on but the atmosphere was so good that we stayed all evening. I should point out that we were on holiday on both of these occasions, now that we are living here we will probably spend new year with friends.

There's a few things that I know of so far in the way of big events... but I'm sure there's plenty more.

The free party in Northbridge (nothing major, but it is free).

NYE at Gloucester Park with bands that would appeal to quite a young crowd I think (Karnivool, Motor Ace, Downsyde, The Flairz, etc etc)

New Year’s Eve on the Rocks at Quarry Amphitheatre (City Beach, Bold Park)

Pendulum (dance music) at Belvoir Amphitheatre

Perth Zoo has Happy Zoo Year, which is for families with young children

New Year’s Eve Vienna Pops Concert at the Concert Hall

Funk Club’s COUNTDOWN New Years Eve at the Leederville Hotel and Hip E Club

The Shed Beach Party

NYE Party at the Cottesloe Hotel

If anyone knows anymore, let me know, as I'll have to put them in the calendar!

The Rendezvous really isn't all that. It's a scruffy establishment, looks very run down from the outside and my wife got terrible food poisoning there a while back from the seafood buffet.

Agreed. We had a great time there, met some lovely people and the kids had a whale of a time but we did feel that it was badly in need of a refurb and didn't compare to 4 star hotels we had stayed in in Europe, Asia, Africa and the States. However, we went there a few weeks ago for a break with the kids and it has been redecorated.

Thanks Steve!
Put them in the calendar, except Red Herring which is booked full.

I'm sure there's many more out there (especially the restaurants), though I'm not sure I'll ever get round to finding them all. Oh well, at least people can have an idea of what's available, what sort of prices(!!).
