Default New train Perth - Warnbro

Hello all

Does anyone know when the new train running from perth down to Mandurah will commence? I have heard that it maybe July but don't know for sure.

Martin

I've heard July too. All the stations seem to be just about finished and there are men working on the line every day so fingers crossed at won't be too long.

Yep - scheduled to be July. That's an Australian July though, so it could be September!!

Officially July but the word on the street is it is likely to be more like December. But I wouldn't worry about that - the new Smartrider electronic ticket replaces the paper ones next week and given all the problems with it still no one will be able to get on a train for a while

The trains are expected to commence training runs in March/ April for a June/ July start. However I travel the train route daily by car from Murdoch station to Mandurah station and I can't see how it will be running by June/ July. Most of the stations look about ready but I haven't seen any rail track running into the Mandurah end. Not sure how far they've got with the underground track and station in the city.

So in short aim for June/ July 2009.

As of Wednesday (per posters on the trains) you will need a smartcard to get in and out of the major stations. I have a friend who works on train maintenance at Nowergup who says he doesn't expect the new line to be operational until the very end of the year.

If it's at all connected with the WA govt, it will still be saying July when it's October.

It looks like I was right - the Mandurah rail line is going to be delayed until the end of the year:

Unless and until the new Perth-Mandurah line is up and running, is it correct to say people commute by car only... Any bus line or shared transport...

There are buses that go down to Mandurah and back all day long.
