New Tourism Australia Campaign Official and Unofficial

Here's the official one from Tourism Australia "There's nothing like Australia".

and the strictly unofficial version though satirical will probably help virally, and just in case we believe some of our own myths, jigjam :)

The tourism campaigns always seem to scare off the tourists and less come afrerwards like the disasterous "where the bloody hell are you adds "and the disasterous terrible film " Australia" with Hugh JAckman and Nicole Kidman which was suposed to lead to a tourism boom. Outback wasteland, crocs and deadly snakes and Japanese bombing the place were supposed to make people want to come to OZ. They should show the adds to the boat people maybe it will stop them coming to OZ.:p The only tourism campaign that worked well was Paul Hogan in the 80's.

Aus has made a disaster out of tourist campaigns :o they just couldnt get where the blooldy hell are you wouldnt appeal to the more 'refined traveller'. It probably appealed to the backpacker market which it does OK in.

Brissie internatinal airport was at one stage welcoming people with a 20 metre long mural of how to speak/behave like an aussie. Pictures of women, called sheilas, barefoot pregnant woman called 'up the duff' outside toilet called the 'dunny' barefoot blokes with beerbelly and singlet. It probably appealed to the aussie yob, ironic thats the last sort of person coming through the internatinal airport:lol:

But to be fair, Aus has a bit of an uphill battle with tourism IMO. Its the sort of place that tourists go to - once. Seen it been there sort of place, unless you have family your not likely to return. - its expensive, a long distance to fly in economy:eek: and if your in the USA, UK etc there are hundreds hot weather/ beaches/ cheaper shopping close by, and far more interesting tourist sights once you done ;) the koala/opera house/rock thing.

The new campaign “There’s nothing like Australia”

It’s true, there really is nothing like Australia... But that’s not necessarily a good thing.

Have to agree with the above post, people come here once and then usually don’t come back. Once you’ve seen it you’ve seen it, it’s too expensive and nothing really special. There are nicer beaches, better landscapes and better cities, better shopping etc closer and cheaper to the UK/USA.

Have to agree with the above posts. Australia is a hard sell, but I suppose they can hardly say "it's flat, hot, boring and full of flies........."
