Default New Stamp Duty Property Rates - QLD

Not seen a thread on this so thought I would summarize for everyone. Some good savings for first time buyers coming up in QLD.

From 1st July 2008, the stamp duty threshold will be increased to $350,000 for first time buyers... saving $1,650

From 1st September 2008, the stamp duty threshold will be increased to $500,000 for first time buyers... saving $9,500

There will be also some minor savings for non first time buyers.

So if you are a first time buyer and looking to buy very soon, maybe hang on until at least 1st July.

Cheers.

I also heard that Qld were planning to be the first state to means test the FHOG. Not exactly means testing, but that it would not be payable for $1M+ properties......probably not affecting a great many first home buyers though!

Hasn't the burden of stamp duty been increased on high value properties as well?
