Default New to forum- offered a job in melbourne

Hi all, firstly great advice on this site......font of all knowledge!

So i recently been offered a relocate to Melbourne, uk company with offices in Australia. They bring me in on a 457 visa. Any ideas how long this could take, bearing in mind they do this probably 50+ Times a year. Very green at this so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Bringing my wife and two young boys, so areas to avoid living would help, having looked at some rental sites i guess we could spend $2500 a month on rent

Thanks in advance

I've moved this into the main forum as you'll get more advice on Melbourne from here. The 457 wont take very long but no one can give you a def time - couple of weeks to couple of months maybe.

Do you know where the company office is located in Melbourne?

I go to Brisbane most weeks but I don't confine myself to living near the airport.

If someone else is paying for a cab then stay where you like! Albert Park and South Melbourne are probably two good suburbs that do allow you a pretty short trip onto the freeway. However, having said that your rent budget probably rules out a lot of options near work.

I would caution that if you live further away there are some potential issues travelling to Albert Park as many routes will involve some traffic black-spots. I don't get the sense the area is the best connected when it comes to public transport either.

You could live anywhere along Beach Road and be fairly convenient for Albert Park if you were driving.
