New to BE - Electrician with Questions

Hi everyone.

My wife and I are seriously considering moving to Queensland, I lived and worked in Oz when I was in my 20's and its taken 10 years since getting married to convince the duchess to emigrate. She is a midwife and has been offered work (indirectly) in Oz but I am an electrician and I have been told that may not be so easy to sort out. I am aware that I will need to re qualify to gain the relevant Australian credentials but I cannot give up work here to go to college again and have been told its very expensive for the course.
So what I need to know is how hard/expensive is it to get the qualifications once we are out there as we could live quite well on my wifes wage which looks to be very good plus the money we get for our house initially.

Any info would be a great help.

Thanks

Greg

Hi Greg,

There's an Electricians forum on the main site index, here's the link to it http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=97

There's lots of info in there, so take a good look around.

I would say that in your circumstances, the easier way to get a licence would be for you to apply to the Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) for an Australian Recognised Trades Certificate (ARTC) - I don't have these links handy at the minute, but you will find them in the forum mentioned above.

Also you will need to complete a course, the quickest and easiest one is in Adelaide at a training centre called Peer Training (again links are in the Electricians forum). You can do the course by correspondence, but you have to attend the centre to sit the exam.

Once you have the ARTC and completed the Peer course you can apply for a full licence in SA which you can then use for any state.
