The new Axis of Evil !!!

New South Wales Treasurer Eric Roozendall has labelled Queensland and Western Australia an 'axis of evil' for their joint bid for more GST revenue.

WA hasn't seen much of the 'boom years' revenue. Many infrastructure projects have been put on hold or scrapped. WA only gets 55c in every $1 back in revenue, the rest is shared amongst the other states. The boom years money has been spent on the recent $50 billion stimulus, not much left in the pot.

Seems to me that only WA and QLD are keeping the economy going, lose the mining and relations with China, then we're all toast.

I have lived here for over thirty years and Victoria and NSW have kept WA and Qld afloat letting them have more tax for a long long time and its about time it was dished out on an equal basis.

There would be no NSW and VIC if there were no mining revenues. WA and QLD keeps the whole country going. Remember, Australia has a one horse economy - digging dirt.

I agree with this, tax and other income generated in a certain state should stay in that state, but this must also apply to resources royalties.

Reminds me of the old debate about North Sea oil revenue. The english used to bang on about how they kept the Scots economy afloat, while Maggie Thatcher blew all the tax revenues from SCOTLANDS north sea oil on her 3 million unemployed dole bludgers.

Same here, QLD and WA provide the real revenue, NSW and VIC complain about paying some of their taxes to other states.

So I go with your plan. Taxes earned in the state (from whatever source), stays in the state. Then we'll see who squeals first.
