Never rains it Pours , Aussie bombs going under
Falcons and Crapadores not worth flogging anyway , more hands free to hole dig .
THE Australian automotive industry is facing its deepest crisis since the government decided to lower protection some two decades ago.
Most of the companies achieved the earlier productivity gains, required to beat lower protection, in exchange for agreements with their workers and unions that now make it extremely difficult to introduce the new productivity changes necessary to adapt to the 30 per cent rise in the Australian dollar.
If the workers and unions don't agree to the changes, the only course available to those companies incurring losses is to take the manufacturing offshore. The Australian automotive industry has a turnover of $17 billion and employs more than 50,000 people.
