I think the quick answer is that there is no cheap way, unfortunately. If you search the forum for 'bringing my cat' you should find some up-to-date costs. We brought 2 cats 5 years ago and it was GBP1200 for the flights and $1500 in australia for quarantine and internal flights to Queensland.

Bringing a cat isn't cheap and there are not that many options.

You don't need 6 months to get organised, they would just need to be up to date with the normal cat vaccinations. On the other hand, should you decide to move back to UK, you should give yourself a good six months to get the rabies jabs and tests done, otherwise it is six months UK quarantine.

I brought a cat from the Middle east - I move rather quicker than was planned. The cat had to have a rabies test - it then stayed with a friend for 5 months and 1 month in quarantine in Sydney. The length of stay in quarantine this end depends on this test and can work out rather expensive.

Hope you get it sorted. Good luck.

I guess it depends where moving from then. Cats from UK will stay in quarantine for a month. Never more, never less.... and they do not need a rabies test.

thanks guys....OH wont pay for the cat to come over
Plus if we ever came back then we would have that cost too, for him to be brought back...
We have taken hime to my friends tonight, he seems to have settled, she is on her own and I know will give him a happy life, he is a house cat so no adjusting to another garden..
We move house tommorow, so all very emotional
