Need help (not for me)
Someone on my twitter tl has been offered a job in Australia, he's 52! I asked how he was getting a visa and he said no worries the company was sponsoring him. I feel this may be a non starter, surely the company can only help him get a visa, he can't work in OZ without one, can he?

I dont think the temporary visas have an age restriction but chances of him getting permanent residence are going to be slim. The company will have to prove that there is no Australian who could do the job and he will be going home at the end of his visa.

Sponsoring is part of the visa process for many migrants, and you're right ,he can't work without an appropriate visa.
Although he's too old for a permanent visa, some temporary ones might still be possible. If the company is approved as a sponsor then his visa would be tied to them - he wouldn't be able to work for anyone else.

Ask him exactly what visa - it will have a number, such as 482, then we might be able to work out whether its a non-starter. Many companies think they can sponsor anybody, but there are actually strict rules around it.

Also an awful lot of life here can vary depending on the visa type - what you are allowed to do, where you can live and work etc. He really will need to know what visa is coming on!
