Virgin: zero.

*And* they start you off with a realistic credit limit, not the $1000 that some others do!

Lots of em waive the fee for the first year. I just got an Earth+ card, no annual fee first year, free membership to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program + 15000 Qantas points as well.

http://www.earth.com.au/apply/

I've been at my address for less than 2 years and the previous one for less than 6 months and got instant online approval.

We got our Virgin Credit Card when we had only been at our present address for about 3 months!

Yeah, me too. I had to fill the form in manually though - The online one just throws you out if you don't have the address history, as it doesn't accept an overseas address.

Call customer services, and ask them to send you an application form. I got one after about 3 months of arrival.

I just did this one this evening as well - fee waived for first year, a realistic limit (I think) and the chap on the phone did hint that if I try to cancel it after 11 months there's a fair chance I can not pay the fee for the second year too! Fee free banking does exist people, you just have to look really hard!
(Oh and they also refunded a $40 charge for going $14 overdrawn for about six hours - which I fully thought they should do, but I was still impressed at how politely and quickly they complied with my request! Thumbs up again for Westpac. A pleasure to deal with in comparison to the morons I always dealt with in UK banking.)

I applied for mine about a week after moving into our purchased property (having been in Australia about 6 months). Good limit and online application plus no annual fees.

I have heard that for Virgin you must be a permanent resident.

We've got Virgin ones. Got them a couple of months after we moved into our house. No dramas. Good limit. Card in hub's name, he has a red one, I have a purple one.

Which card is that that has no annual fees? You must have a special.

It's a Citibank Gold Visa. I got it through a link someone posted on here about 9 months ago. Not sure if it's currently available.

Looks like the Wizard one is no longer available either. They now seem to waive the first year fee, but only the ongoing fee if you spend $5000+ in the preceding year.

to the OP, make sure that you check the fine print on some of the cards. Some start to charge you interest from the day of purchase, instead of giving you up to 55 days free interest period.

To my knowledge, the Virgin card is the only one that has no ongoing fees as standard AND provides 55 days free interest.
