My husband has just put a deposit down on a runabout. They have told him he needs to convert his NZ license to a Qld one before he can complete the sale.

We've been here nearly three years and we bought a car before we'd changed our licenses. Maybe things have changed since then.

I didn't, but you need to have enough ID to get a queensland driving record ID which is used to hold the car ownership. Passport and a couple of credit card inprints should do it.

He's got passport etc. Maybe he's confusing being asked to get a Qld driving record ID with getting a Qld license.
This driving record ID what is it exactly?

All car, boat ,trailer rego, and licenses get held against a driver ID, it'll normally be your license, but they will create an ID if you don't have a license

hi we have just bought a new car this week and had similar trouble but ours was more around not having any proper documents to state where we live. Apparently they have change the rules recently, eventually we provided copeis of all our documents passports, visa andletter from person who's house we are staying to prove we live here. so it can be done just have to jump through a few hoops first. our biggest problem is cant change uk license to qld one as living in an unofficial rental and have no lease agreement but have 3 months to sort it out.

As far as I am aware, the need for an official agreement shouldn't be required, as there is no plausible reason for Qld Transport to request that you provide one. They do not even request proof address change when notifing them that you have moved, so effectively you could put any old address down, and they don't check it out.

Sounds like the current mentality that you MUST have a Qld drivers licence before you can do anything. Some Australia Post staff, especially in Qld, will only accept a drivers licence, er Qld one at that, as the only proof of identity. Everything else including passports are to them not valid forms of id and will not be accepted.

God this is hard work. He tried to get a Qld license he had all the ID required but our rental agreement does not start till Saturday so they would not accept it. He was dead chuffed aas you can imagine esp as he queued up for 1 hr to be told that.
