Need Advice Re: Arrival In Perth
Hi Everybody,
I arrive in Perth on 14th April 2007 and I will be arriving 'cold'. That is to say that I do not know anyone in Perth bar my mates elderley parents in Kallaroo. I will be arriving alone as I am single and have no kids. Upon arrival I will be looking for work (I am a Mechanical Engineer), however, I am concerned about finding suitable accomodation for a single guy. I'm just looking for a room in a house to begin with but not too expensive. Basically, I am coming to Perth to see what it is like to live and work there and if I like it I will sell up at home and emigrate fully. Some people have suggested going to a Youth Hostel or Backpackers, however, although I am still young at heart, I want to avoid that scenario. Is there anyone out there who can advise me or point me in the right direction, or maybe you have a room to rent ? I would appreciate any help. |

We are staying here in a cabin for the 1st 4 weeks alot cheaper than any where else i've seen. They do Motel units which would be ideal for 1 person. Good Luck with the move we are flying 25th April Kate and Lew |
Re: Need Advice Re: Arrival In Perth
Hi mate you could check out holliday rentals. There are some nice holliday flats at the marina ( Hillarys)prob cost a bit though. Also Joondaloop is a good place for flat shares/house shares as there are a lot of students there.
Kallaroo is nice, my dad lives there so visited him a few years ago.Quite central for the north of perth but expensive. From reading these posts i gather there is a bit of competition when applying to rent a place. This forum has a house/flat rental link too .We are goin to kallaroo in july, but lucky enough to have family there.Maybe you could stay with your mates parents for a while just to get a feel for the place, also if they are living there they will know where the best places for you to look. Goodluck. |

I see them arrive 'home' at night after a days work. Most nights they are chillin', playing guitar & listening to music. My thoughts are that being alone (initially) it might be too easy to feel lonely until you find your feet. I would 'personally' consider the backpackers as an option... just to see. The best part is, your not committed and you could probably get a single room much cheaper than a normal rented accommodation. I know when I travelled around Oz, I loved the backpackers and the YHA, it was so easy to meet people and to enjoy my time there. Good luck. Neil. |

It's very clean and tidy and is definitely not a 'party' backpackers like some places and does not attract that sort of backpacker. I stayed in my own room for about $50/night but you can get dorm beds for about $22/night. It's close to the city, places to eat, nightlife etc. I can recommend it. |
