Default Napisan - can you get it in UK?

Oh I know this is a strange question but Napisan is such a great Australian invention and I want to know if you can buy it in the UK (cos if not, I'm taking a job-lot home with me next week!!)

Although I don't actually own any nappies (yet) it has been brilliant for brightening up white towels and sheets, etc.

If no Napisan, is there an equally good product in the UK? (Never tried to buy anything like this before hence my question.)

Thanks
HP

Yes you can get napisan in UK and also something else thats really good for brightening them up is Soda Crystals just soak some in hot water add nappies and voila!!!! brilliant white nappies with no stains, its only about 59p a packet from Tescos or any supermarket sells it , its with the washing up liquid, cleaning stuff etc brilliant, i wouldnt be without it also excellent for soaking burn stains off of the wires racks in ovens, i use the stuff for any thing (and it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals) just remember to use really hot water!!!

)Hope that little tip comes in helpful)

Boots do their own version of napisan as well. Our girls both had terry nappies and I agree the napisan is a godsend. Those nappies are still as white as the day we bought them - and considering what I often found in those nappies thats a bloody miracle.

GO GOR THE TERRIES!!!
I used terries with the twins (saved me a bloody fortune!) and its not such a nightmare as everyone thinks!! You can also get shaped washable nappies now too which I also used and thought were excellent!!! Using terries you need a couple of things tho - A washing machine, tumble dryer and a sense of humour...cos everyone will go ''oooh terries, when I was a kid my mum had a washing line full of white terries every day'' or something similar when they discover you use them. gets very tedious after you have heard for the 70th time!!
On a plus side, they come in useful later on! I take one to the gym with me, they make handy sick mopper-uppers, can be hacked into flannels/dishcloths/dolls blankets/dollshouse carpets etc.

good luck!!!

Sue

ps sorry to dive in there claire!! its one of my fave subjects - I know, sad arent I!?

I believe the UK version is Oxyclean which you can get in Asda and maybe even now Sainsburys - does the same thing so you needn't overload your case with the stuff - better to take other Aussie faves like: twisties, cherry ripes etc....

Not Napisan, but we always fill up with Neon White King on the way back! That's (apparently) the bee's knees for your whites and not obtainable in the UK - or at least, 'er upstairs doesn't know the equivalent.

And Mrs OT swears by some bar (looks like soap) from New Zealand which is magic for getting stains out. Can't remember the name but someone will come up with it I'm sure.

Did you also know folks that an American company just bought up Weetabix/Alpen, Branston Pickles and Ambrosia in one fell swoop.

You can get the exact same product as you get in Oz (Napisan) at Waitrose.

Certainly can. I would use them again if we have any more baby Gaskells. Like Sue said you can carry on using them even after the kids have outgrown them for a variety of things.

Go Terry Go

I too have "discovered" Napisan since being here! Don't recall seeing it before, but then I never washed nappies either (used disposables).

You'll have to experiement a bit with washing powders here. Many of them are for use with cold water, sorry but I cannot imagine washing my clothes in cold water, I can't believe it could get all the stains out. They don't seem to use the terms "biological" or "non-bio", and so far I have only found one powder which doesn't bleach the colours out, it's called "BioZet Colour", they don't have anywhere near the range we were used to from Tesco. Same with fabric conditioner, no Comfort here, we use "Fluffy" instead. The tumble driers sheets are hard to come by, and they are completely different, a sort of thick sheet which doesn't smell as nice as Bounce.

You find Napisan in UK supermatkets in a small Blue box (not in a big huge container like OZ & NZ) It is usually with the baby products, not with the normal cleaning produsts. And it costs around £1.80 per box.

The Timtams are over 2x are much as Tesco on this site. I bought a packet today and they were £1.35, on the website they are £2.95.

I know this has nothing to do with Napisan, but just had to mention it.

LOL TWT
My husband was adamant that we will use terry nappies come March...until I reminded him that they would have to go in the same washing machine as all his favourite clothes (just maybe not at same time!). He pulled a face in disgust so I suggested the method my mum used to use - a huge maslin pan and boil them on the cooker top - he was equally as disgusted to think they would be stirred around in a pan in the kitchen!!

(He's easily traumatised as you can tell...how will he cope with changing a nappy, never mind surviving the delivery room!??)

Thanks everyone else for your replies.
