Default Nambour

Anyone know anything about Nambour? Is it a good place to live or is it a haven for Aussie rednecks?

Cheers Pete - already checked out the second address before I posted. Wife's a nurse and the hospital in Nambour looks good, plus the beach is within 1/2 an hour I believe; close enough to do some early morning surfing and fishing.

There are some beautiful places around that area too.

Around Noosa is some fantastic fishing, the inlet being a spot that i can definatly recommend. Surfing is very popular all the way up the sunshine coast....we want to take lessons eventually I've done a little bit in Cornwall but i am not sure it quite compares!

We've got friends in Coolum - mate's a good surfer (result of many wasted days in Durban, South Africa), so I'm hoping he's going to give me some lessons when we're over there - my surfing experience is limited to using a shark biscuit (boogie board), again as a result of growing up near Durban.

Looking forward to watching the sun rise while casting a line from the beach, something I miss from my days back in SA.

I can't wait to get fishing down under again (as you may tell if you read any of my posts!!!!).

First target is a gummy shark off the beach in front of the in-laws beach shak. Calls for a bit of night fishing, which is WONDERFUL when you can do it in shorts and a t-shirt!!!

Im also after a Mullloway from Port Mac jetty.....but thats gonna be hard work!

Spent many a Friday night as a teenager night fishing for barbel in our local dam armed with a bucket full of "platties" (wino of the frog world) for bait, and a six-pack of beer, sitting around a gas lamp with mates - heaven!

Nambour, righteh ho, Inland but a main town, has train station and Council offices are there plus a sugar mill, plus the huge Nambour Hospital. Hot in summer, I do mean very hot, the heat just seems to sit there. Its actually quite a useful location tho, good links to Brisbane highway and train, 25 mins to the beaches, the shopping center (very run down now) is going to be upgraded.

It def has a um dero element of the population, like housing comission, druggies who like to be handy to the hospital metho programme. However that is a small portion, many nice folk there too. If you are looking at housing there get Perwillowen, nice and green, or Nambour heights, breeze. Just up the hill from Namb is Montville Maleny areas, real picture book village stuff, green as ireland and about 10 degrees cooler in summer than Namb, no jobs tho, but if you had a job in Namb thats where I would live.

Houses seem much cheaper there, 2 years ago you would have got plenty under the $100,000 and they could not sell them, now you might still pick up a doer upper for just over the $200,000 but it would be a punch up to get it Its another area thats become popular cause of the boom.

Montville and Maleny - we went driving up there last year, no idea what it's like to live there, but it was certainly beautiful, and very green, as you say Dotty. Lovely views towards the coast from certain spots, I guess its just a bit more isolated than down in the coastal towns, but I remember thinking it would be a wonderful spot to live in.

Cheers Dotty - the hospital is a big pull factor for us; my wife's a nurse, specialising in Accident and Emergency, so she'll be looking forward to having a constant stream of winos and smackheads to keep her busy Will do some more investigating.
