My son has asthma problem.

My trade assessment has been approved. Now preparing to lodge PR apllication but worried about my son. He is 5 and has asthma. Anybody knows if this can be acceptable or not. Thanks.

Re: My son has asthma problem.

Hi,
I am a Practice Nurse...and I hold regular asthma clinics.....but I dont profess to know it all...
I cant see why you should be refused on the grounds of your child having asthma.
As you know Im sure, someone with asthma can live a very normal life if their asthma is well controlled.
What is your son's control like??
Does he require a preventor and reliever???...do you give him them regularly??
I would think that when he has a medical as long as his chest sounds clear and from your history ( as his isnt reliable being 5 ) they are satisifed that he is well controlled Im sure there wont be a problem. Im not saying that there will be a problem if he isnt well controlled either...it may be that they would want him to see a specialist...I dunno.
I would say that if he isnt too well controlled at the moment and you think that it could be because you dont ensure that he has his inhalers ( we all live busy lives and I too am one for forgetting things..Im not accusing in any way) then maybe if you endeavour to give him them regularly and he improves...then thats ok. If you do this and he doesnt improve then I would see you asthma nurse ( as I am) or GP to sort his control out.

Hope that helps a bit...
I havent got to the medicals stage yet..

Hi Fairplay,

You can search the MRT and IRT databases for equivalent cases; I did a quick search
on the MRT database just now and found a lot of special need relative cases but none
involving health refusal. You would need to work through all the cases mentioning
asthma fairly carefully to get an idea of the health yardsticks involved. MRT
database is at "decisions" at www.mrt.gov.au and this link is useful for the options
apart from the Austlii and Scale search engines.

Cheers

Fairplay,

Our son had to have a medical for a 457 Long Term Business Visa Rather than for PR, and we declared his asthma. The Embassy referred it back to Australia, but it came back no problem. I heard somewhere on these pages that Australia had one of the, if not the highest rates of asthma in the world. I can't imagine there's any way this could be a show-stopper for you.

our son also has asthma . I declared his current medication and previous 3 hospitalisations (last one 3 years ago) at his mediacl he was fine and we got a 457 long term visa no problems.

It was on the news last night about Australia having one of the highest asthma rates in the world. I know a lady who got PR and she had a serious kidney problem.

My 7-year old son has asthma, and we have just received our PR visas ok. In fact all 5 of us in the family have had medical problems of one kind or another over the last few years, I think immigration are more concerned about serious diseases, like TB.

Thank you very much dear all. So I should not be worried about and should lodge my PR application with confident. Thanks
