Surely you jest?

Half the fun of moving to THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET is for a change!

Get in that supermarket and pick the brands that take your fancy. Why do you buy the brands you buy now?

Trial and error maybe?

Diane. :
Andrex equivalent - Sorbent
Fairy - Morning Fresh?
Ariel - Personal preference, I like Radiant
Heinz Ketchup - Heinz Ketchup
Clover - ? Use real butter myself
Dairylea slices - Coon slices
Walkers crisps - can't just remember the name, don't buy often
Bisto - Gravox
Ski yoghurt - you can get small yoghurts but they also tend to buy large cartons. All very nice
Danish back bacon - bacon isn't quite the same
Ham - pre packaged ham tends to be wafer thin, best buying off deli counter
wiskas - sorry, no cat
PG Tips - Working our way through, currently trying Liptons intense
Panetene - Panetene
Warburtons thick sliced - try a Bakers Delight or Brumbys
Marmalade - Coles and Woolies sell an English or Scottish chunky marmalade
Rice pudding - haven't noticed any but then I haven't looked
Heinz tomato soup - can't help
Ragu spaghetti sauce - lots of difference pasta sauces
HP Sauce - haven't noticed brown sauce
Pot Noodles - lots of varieties but you must try Nasi Goreng (packet of noodles with really spicy packets to add)
Kit kats - kit kats
ciggies - non smoker

But there are lots of new things here you can't get in UK. Couldn't afford frozen yoghurt in the UK, it's really cheap here and delicious. Don't get much turkey like you can buy filets and stuff in the UK. Tends just to be large frozen roasting portions quite expensive. But the beef is gorgeous and relatively cheap. Not so many pre-prepared meals. Watch out for the sausages as the skin tends to be tough. I go for the English style. Arnotts do really yummy snacky biscuits in savoury flavours. Nobby's nuts are big here (I know they are in the UK now too) and I particularly like the Beer nuts. Turkish bread is very popular here and great sliced, toasted and served with dips.

Enjoy the differences but I understand you wondering. It took me ages to buy my first pack of toilet rolls!

Hi Diane,

have a look on the supermarket websites and you can see for yourself
try www.coles.com.au or www.woolworths.com.au

most things you can get in the UK you can get here too, although they dont nessessarily taste the same tho

Some ones that haven't been answered yet...

Danish Back Bacon - Try Killarney bacon (from a butcher, not the supermarket)
Frank Coopers Seville Marmalade - no direct equivalent that I know of, but brands which I know do Seville Marmalade are Doran's, Maggie Beer and Mrs Oldbucks
20 Regal King Size - I *think* you can get these at specialist tobbacoist shops

Have fun shopping!

Seems to be a problem with bacon and ham. Hope bacon is nothing like it is in the US! Ill try the butchers.
So, no Rice Pudding yet either? At least theres plenty of equivelants or the same brand.

Anything youve not been able to replace or find?

Worried about not having decent bacon butties now....................

Don't worry, the bacon is nowhere near what they have in the US Killarney bacon just happens to be a favourite of mine! You can obviously get bacon from the supermarket but I always find it not quite as good as what I can get at the butchers.

As for rice pudding, I had never really heard of ready-made rice pudding it 'til I came to the UK, have never tried it (rice? in a pudding???). Can't buy it in a regular shop as far as I know, but you can get it online at http://www.atasteofhome.com.au/produ...roducts_id=471
