My shipping thread

I thought i would keep all my shipping details here for other people to use/compare.

Crown have just been it took him 45 min roughly though i wasnt up for any small talk.

He estimated 20ft but when i started pulling faces at a rough estimate of around £3500 - 4000 he changed his tune and said i would only need 70% of a 20ft so would do a shared and will quote on that basis.

I'll be back when the quote arrives... JM coming next tuesday and 12.12 is Excess international.

Re: My shipping thread

Just to let you know for my 70% shared container

JM came back at £3179 plus £150 for crate £28 + VAT /week storage this end and £140 for delivery within 200 miles of brisbane plus insurance at 3%

However, I did ask about part packing non breakables and they brought the price down to £3000 plus the extras and they will supply packaging materials.

Crown came in at £3424 with no extras to pay other than insurance at 3%, they included the rocking horse crate and free storage and delivery within 200miles of brisbane.

Now all i need to do is go back to crown and ask about the part self packing of non breakables and see if they can negotiate a bit more and I will be happy.

Just to give you an idea of what is being shipped:
Washer, Dryer, Dishwasher, Kitchen pots pans, glasses, crockery, toaster, 6ft dining table, 6 chairs, 3 seater sofa, 2 arm chairs, 10 book boxes, 1 double bed and 1 single, 2 flat pack canvas wardrobes, rocking horse, 2 large chest of drawers, 10 toy boxes, 6 large pictures/mirrors, drum kit, coffee table, large welsh dresser, 2 computers, 2 stereos, 5ft tall cupboard, craft boxes, clothes and art materials, fossils.

Out of interest, how do AQIS regard fossils?

Re: My shipping thread

Well they are all going in the same box and will be clearly labelled so aquis dont have to trawl through all my boxes.

I have been advised to clean them and then varnish/seal them. They will still look but hopefully they won't need to treat them if they are all well sealed.

Still not sure which sealant to choose - anyone know? I've looked on fossil sites but no info!

Crystals have to be put in the dishwasher on a hot wash.

I am more concerned about the rocking horse to be honest still waiting for the maker to get back to us with stat decs on the horse hair to confirm it has been treated.

Re: My shipping thread

I've booked John Masons and managed to get 4 weeks free storage out of them. I was really pleased with the woman at John Masons who was really quick at responding and they seemed very efficient with their paperwork.

Crown was getting difficult as they wouldnt compete, was slow to respond (i even had to chase the initial quote up) and then told me that the week i need to move they are pretty much booked up.

So for 80% of a 20ft on shared basis I am paying £3000 plus £140 delivery, £150 for rocking horse crate and £15 in case of container cleaning - 3% of value insurance.
