These figures are better than many 2WD cars on the road!

Love this review of the x-trail. Pretty big 4x4 in UK terms, but a ladies runaround in Oz.

True... but we started with your research, but perhaps the pathfinder was too big for us. Too many cars to chose from, We wanted 5 seats at least, something we could throw bikes/camping gear in, but ok around town.
Lots of reviews here

I've just bought a new diesel Hyundai santa fe slx 7 seater. I get it on monday, if anyone's interested in a review from me (it does well in online and paper reviews) let me know.

The Hyundai santa fe slx 7 seater is the one will are looking at. Test drove the 2.2 in the UK and it felt really good. The 7 seats were good for ferrying kids friends etc. A lot quieter than the x-trail.
Sorrento looks good on paper , but no diesel in Oz until Aug some time. Not had a chance to try it yet.
Did you buy the slx in Oz, if so what price did you get. Did you find out what all the options are ? I was quoted 46,611 from a brisbane dealer, but they didn't do bull bars or toe hooks.

Ok,
we've had it a week and it's pretty cool.
Santa Fe SLX 2.2L Diesel.
First impressions- interior is not as nice as the Rav though it's functional and looks hard wearing. Cherry wood effect dash and door seem to offend my UK tastes?? Indicator stems seem a little dated, tape player in the stero unit- why? Loads of little storage places.
Seats are comfy, the drinks cooler in the armrest is useful but has the vents at the bottom meaning any future spills will go down the vents.
Seven seats will be useful to us occasionally, in choosing the seven seat version you lose the security screen which shields items in the boot from view (when the back seats are down). Our solution was to buy a boot mat from Clarkes rubber and put the supplied carpet over the items in the boot (on top of the rubber mat).
There is plenty of room in the back seats of the car for adults. Driving position is good. leather wheel and gearstick are a nice touch.
Driving, comfy and a soft ride. I was getting around 8 l/km on a run back from Brissy airport. Not much roll when driven normally.
One criticism is that accelerating from rest or on approach to a roundabout there is a noticable delay from pressing the accelerator to the car pulling forward sometimes. This is not really a problem when you have driven the car for a day or two because you get used to it and just press the accelerator a little harder and anticipate it happening.
It's comfy, economical and has bags of room. The permanent roofbars are handy and the automatic gears with cruise control coupled with high driving position make distances a breeze.
In short it's a nice car, given the limited diesel and MPV range here I am very pleased with it.
Feel free to ask about anything I haven't mentioned.

Hi,
What are weather shields ? I presume a bonnet protector is the leather type thing to stop fly/stone damage, and headlights protectors are plastics covers.
General Question. Is it worth look at bull/roo bars on a 4x4 in QLD ? Mostly town driving, but camping etc, and always worried about driving at night out in the sticks.
