LOL. Can only comment on Brisbane. I have visited there 3 times and my top 3 things to do would be;

1, Montville.
2, Southbank, Man made beach, City of Brisbane.
3, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

Montville is well worth a visit if you will have use of a car. It is North of Brisbane near the Glass House Mountains. Its a beautiful place and it almost reminds me of the Alps.
Hopefully you will get some replies from a few people that actually live in the area as they will have much more useful information than myself.

Each city has its own places to see and the best information you can get on them would be at a tourist information centre in the city you are in at the time. You can find them by looking through the local phonebook or asking at any half decent hotel or backpackers. There may also be an information stand/brochures available at the airports.

In perth most would say , kings park(nice views over perth. can also have that great aussie tradition: a barbeque there. They are free to use.) Fremantle markets and coffee strip, a river cruise on the swan river, water skiing, a day at rottnest island, a day at the perth zoo(south perth), a show at His majesty's Theatre or Burswood Hotel, Burswood Casino, Whiteman park, a swim at cottesloe beach and lunch at indiana tearooms, browsing subiaco & claremont shopping precincts, dinner & clubbing in Northbridge, Bungy Jumping (forget where its at tho), wine tours on swan valley, a day down margaret river (agin wine tours, handmade chocolates and cheeses) are a few things that come to mind

Gee, calm down!! When you wrote your inital post I'd already been up and out of the house for four hours!! It was a Saturday, some people have a life away from the computer (and others like me are addicted to this forum  :))

Okay, my starter for ten (Brisbane)
- Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
- Take a trip on a City Cat
- Make use of the free City Bus Loop
- Check out the Whats on Guide for your time here
- Take a day trip over to either Stradbroke or Moreton Island
- Do a day trip to the Glass House Mountains
- If animals are more your thing try Australia Zoo
- Visit one of the free museums down on Southbank, or go to the manmade beach for an afternoon
- Get use to the suburbs and perhaps have a look for houses
- Go to one of the theme parks down on the Gold Coast

HTH :)

The minute you arrive in any of those places, the tourist brochures and sightseeing ideas will be in every hotel/airport/motel you go to.

Your covering a massive area is ?? weeks, why worry about tourist stuff. My suggestions, houses, JOB centers, schools, food shop, clock up some KLM's in rush hours, weather now obvious, weather in opposite season?, Local wages, walk around day then at night, do the toursit spots when you have dedided if you want to live here.

Don't know about Perth, as we didn't go there, but we did visit Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne last September. We had 3 nights in each place, to try to get an idea of what they are like (we are hoping to emigrate within a couple of years). We started off by using the 'tour bus' in each of the cities (apart from Melbourne, unfortunately, as this was our last port of call before travelling home and we were knackered by that point!). Was well worth doing as you get to see all different parts of the city and they point out all the main attractions on the way. You can get on and off wherever you want so you can take a closer look at the attractions and parts of the city that appeal most to you. Brisbane's South Bank was lovely, with it's man-made beach and tropical walk area. In Adelaide, it's worth taking a trip on the tram down to the seaside at Glenelg, where the first settlers landed there (one of the loops on the tour bus takes you to Glenelg as well). With the Adelaide Hills being a popular wine growing area, they also do a few wine tasting trips (brochures in the hotels) - we didn't have enough time to go on one unfortunately, but we would have liked to! The indoor market in Adelaide was worth a visit too and gives you a nice down to earth feel for the place. In Melbourne - the Zoo was well worth a visit and is easy to get to by tram. Finally, don't know how you are travelling between Adelaide and Melbourne, but if you do happen to hire a car, a real 'must do' would be the Great Ocean Road with it's spectacular views, particularly the shipwreck coast.

Hope this helps! Am sure you will love it out there...we did!!

Look at schools and neighbourhoods and work opportunities, you are packing a lot of cities in to what I'm assuming is a short time(??). Leave the tourist stuff for some other time. Unless, of course you have decided where to live in which case for Perth I'd suggest King's Park and a day trip to Rottnest for some snorkelling.

Forgot to mention...we made a point of buying a copy of the local paper in each place - one which has the job pages and property pages is best. They make good reading, highlighting local issues/events/what's on etc, and they give an idea of what jobs are around, the wages, and house prices in different areas of the city. Plus they make a good reference point when you return home.
