Default Music and concerts in Perth

Anyone living in Perth have any comments on the music scene there and getting to see live music - either well known artists or new stuff (and is it any good??)

Anything from pub gigs to big concerts? Looking at ticketmaster it seemed that Perth got missed a bit, compared to Melbourne and Sydney........

Most major names have been making the trek to Perth for a few years now (the money swilling around from the resources boom benefits music-lovers). You're less likely to get musicals here, though some make it. From what I hear it's a fairly lively new music scene, but we don't get out often enough to know about music in pubs, etc. We tend to save our $ for someone we really want to see, usually an act from the Jurassic Period.

Our local has a band on every Friday evening, not that any of them ever sound particularly great. This evenings band has just finished, I could here them from our living room & for a change I actually managed to work out what one of the songs was

We move to Perth soon, and have planned it for a few years now. We do like our concerts as well, but we have to live up to the fact that perth is the most isolated city in the world.

However we have been pleased to see some of our favourites going there. Kasabian went there twice in one year (can't remember if it was last year, or the year before), and hopefully they go again soon as we saw them in Sheffield recently and they were amazing.

We also notice that Roger Waters is doing Perth in January. Fantastic show, we saw it in Manchester in summer, and thinking of going again in Perth, it would be our first concert in Perth. Bit of a strange gig compared to Kasabian though, as you can sit with a bottle of wine and watch amazing light show. Can't beat a bit of a pink floyd.

There are some free gig magazines available here, xpress magazine and drum media, try looking in them, they're good for what's going on. I think they have online versions too

We were there in august and saw a fab local covers band in a bar in Scarborough. Friends have assured us there's plenty of live music to be had; can't wait for jazz at the wineries!

We have seen more bands here in 6 years than when we lived in the UK.
True, not 'all' the bands come to Perth, but many more are now starting too.

A few we've seen, The Back Eyed Peas, Pink, The Script, Kylie, Coldplay, Santana, Robbie Williams, Snoop Dogg, Alica Keys. There's loads more that we haven't seen, so it's not too bad.

It all depends on your taste, but with free parking close to the venue, free public transport included in the ticket price, we can leave the concert get one of the first shuttle buses to the car park, no queues and be home in 30-40 mins..... try that in London!

We've been to some brilliant concerts at Sandalfords Winery in the Swan Valley and it's such a beautiful venue..just chillin out with a picnic and a bottle of their excellent vino...perfect:-) Saw the lovely Michael Buble last summer!!
There are also some free concerts held here and there. We went to see The Whitlams at Joondalup Golf Resort in Feb..free concert, again just pick a spot for the old picnic blanket and away you go

My wife forced me to go to that with my bogan neighbours - it was one of the worst experiences of my life, had to leave early.
