Question Murray River Houseboat in August - thoughts please

Hi there Oz lot.

Me and him are rather hoping to get a break away this winter & my eyes have drifted to maybe a houseboat on the Murray River .

Has anyone done this at all please? What would the weather be like in August.

Thanks to anyone who could give a bit of an insight.

August is cold and wet here. However, friends of ours did a Murray River houseboat thing one year in December and loved it.

Or you could come stay with us in Perth. It's still cold and wet but I've got a slow cooker, bread recipes and loads of room for you guys.

Are we talking Renmark / Mildura area or Echuca / Mulwala ( Lake Mulwala )
, depending on River height the lower river is more attractive , marginally warmer ( freezing nights both areas ) but if the river is really high I think Echuca is best .But then I always did like Echuca so I,m biased.

Weather wise (cough ) early August cold , late August low 20s , if its raining quite a bit warmer day and night , cold and misty days create a great atmosphere on the River.

Yes it will be cold - average range 5-17C. Not a lot of rain though, so you should have a good time as long as you take plenty of warm clothes.

I'm not sure TBH. I've no idea of this area at all. I don't mind mood and atmosphere. It would be good for watching & photos . A wee bit of chill is OK but wouldn't want my digits breaking off into the river with frostbite.
Would be rather hoping to spot an assortment of wildlife. I love birds.

Any thoughts on Platypus spotting tours that way or a few other bits we might go see?

Sound like a right tourist twerp . My only saving grace is that if you came to the Top of the South Island New Zealand , I could help.

Platyducks ,not much hope seeing them , Heallsville Sanctuary would be best for that. (Melbourne )
If the Perricoota and Barmah / Mathoura forests are in flood you should see ample bird life , kangaroos and wallabys
But if the Rivers are low Mildura / Renmark would be better .

My in-laws did this last year, they came over from Ashburton, they had no problem with the weather but it would have been considerably warmer than Ashburton at that time of year! There's even a photo of them eating ice-creams!

Thanks everyone. Not sure if we want to be cold so perhaps I should be considering October time.
