much trade work in oz
Hi again, just wondering what the word on the street is about trade jobs in oz. I've been concentrating on SA because thats where I am doing my recce, In feb.
But it seems like there are very few, if none at all. How is the rest of Australia doing? Im a bricklayer. Thanks Lee |
Re: much trade work in oz
Good bricklayers are hard to find,it will take time to get contacts, things have slowed down a bit but plenty of work in Sydney.
You could expect to earn anything from $25 per Hr up to $40 on a ABN. They like you to be here and ready to start not many get a job offer before they come out in this field of work. Hope this helps |
Re: much trade work in oz
I dont know any brickies who came here in WA who are still "hands on " working in their trade...can be Difficult to break into... Working conditions can be shite (heat) and irregular work availability....
Dont be conned by the land of milk and honey image... Be prepared to use your skills to get here... Then have to settle for something else work wise... |
Re: much trade work in oz
If you are open to where you base yourself, you won't be out of work. Where we were in rural SA, the town only had three builders and all needed more workers, massive waiting list etc

Re: much trade work in oz
its pretty busy in wa at the moment and is forcast to get busier next year.
you can expect anything from $240-$320 a day. saying that though i've heard the rules have changed for employing subbies and its heading in to a more of a paye situation |
Re: much trade work in oz
The ATO are having a clamp down, I was working for a firm here in Sydney and they had a ATO and work cover orddit the out come was that we could no longer work as a sole trader options were set up Pty company , go on wages or casual rate but they withdrew this last option as it would cost them too much ! .this was if you we're being paid on a hourly rate and the 80 - 20 is being abolished

Hi thanks for that post, We are not interested in citys, but want to be near one just for the work, i have been doing all trades for over 7 years, so it would be great to find a little rural building firm. Where were you in SA and how did you find it, to live? thanks again.
Murray Bridge is going through massive expansion at the moment which is only 1 hr ish from Adelaide. Likewise some of the seaside towns are growing a lot, Robe, Beachport and Victor Harbour to name a few. Not sure how you find a way of finding specific jobs/rates of pay but you could start by approaching some of the larger building firms in those areas to see what picture they paint? |
