With the great ocean road, go as far as possible along it to Warrnambool,
Logans bay lookout, great scenery and whale watching area, then go onto
Port Fairy, beautiful historic fishing villiage and surf beach, walk around Griffith Island. great coastal scenery, maybe then go onto Portland and Bridgewater bay, if possible go to the Grampian Mountains 1 hour north and stay at Halls Gap, spectacular mountain scenery,
then go back to Melbourne.

The Ghan Darwin to Adelaide, 3,000 miles of beautiful countryside.
Atleast it will be nothing like you would see in the UK or Europe.
