Default Moving to Wollongong - College Help Needed

We are moving to Wollongong in December 2010 and would like any information on prospective colleges for our 16 year old daughter. Any help on enrolement/term start date/fees/transport/ANYTHING to do with colleges would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, if your daughter is 16 in December then she will actually probably need to enrol for the school January intake 2011. The long summer holiday (Chistmas break starts here in December) schools normally reopen for the new acadmic year after Australia Day 26 January. Fees will depend on whether you have a temp residency visa or are PR, these vary from state to state, not sure about NSW, sorry. She will probably enrol for year 11 if she is 16 already as she will turn 17 the next academic year which is the first year HSC (A level equivalent). You will find that there are a range of school choices available, government schools (here called public) catholic independant schools and private independant schools which will vary in price from say $5-6000 a year right upto $25000+ pa. At high school about 40% of Australian kids go private in one form or another. There is a new website here called myschool which may help www.myschool.edu.au. Good luck its not an easy thing to do, but our son was 16 when he came and he settled into year 11 very easily and loved every minute.

Thanks for the information, I had done some more research since I posted this thread and that was the conclusion I had also come too. As she will be 17 in November and is already enrolled in a sixth form in the UK it maybe more prudent for her to complete the sixth form year and delay coming out for 6 months, although I am not sure how that is going to go down... she already wants me to book her in for surf school!
