The REIV (Real Estate Institute of Victoria) have made an excellent (if a little dry) video presentation on the latest current property market situation here.

Honestly, if you are moving to Melbourne and you are not absolutely 100% up to speed on what is going on here, you need to sit through this 10 minute spiel to get a very accurate picture of the current situation.
