Moving to Melbourne

Myself and my wife are in the process of getting our visas in order to move to Melbourne. We will be working in the CBD and were wondering where people would recommend to live? We would like to be close to restuarants etc and also easy commute to CBD. It would be nice to live near other ex-pats if possible also. Keen to hear other people's recommendations

That's very much a how long is the piece of string? type question with so many other unknowns - family? schools? budget? type of accommodation? etc. You wont get an expat area, it's a very cosmopolitan city and you may get some expats, you may not, but they dont tend to hang around together unlike other communities.

Its just me and my wife - so no need for schools etc. Open about accomodation type though if an apartment it needs to have a balcony. Our budget is variable but would be nearer the higher end of the scale (not keen on putting salary info on a public forum!)

Only 63% of Melbourne's population were born in Australia, so it is more a question of where aren't there expats!

Hi, I recommend you have a look at areas like South Yarra, Brunswick, Carlton, Richmond, St Kilda, for starters. All of those are a short tram or a long walk to the City, and all have good nightlife etc.
