As you said he is on £100k in the UK and now has to accept the equivalent of £30k. That is a big drop.
I read this as he has been offered a job for $75k a year, and that he will be bringing with him 100000 pounds to buy a property in Melbourne, am I mistaken?? |

we are currently living in a suburb abour 19 km from melbourne cbd, on one wage of $56,000 and two kids, we are starving and cold and miserable so if anyone could spare a few$'s...............are we hell, we're managing fine, just like we did in the uk we weren't rich there and didn't lead an extravagant life style and we dont here, hopefully oh will get a job soon then we can buy some bread:rofl:

BTW I'd hardly say Berwick is a sought after area but yes its a very nice area. Haggis Supper like most Scotsmen talks a lot of sense, it all depends what your used to in UK. My pay is a lot less here but my wifes is a bit more but the lifestyle here is worth more than both our wages. |

I think that's manageable in Melbourne. It would depend how close you want to live to the CBD. $75k is a higher than average salary here.
We came over with a lot less than 100K gbp, my oh is in a better paid job than the one you've been offered but I think you can easily get somewhere nice to live for under $500K in Melbourne if you look for it and definitely if you're prepared to live a bit further out. We're having a 4 bed house built for under $500K in Ferntree Gully which is a lovely area - about a 50 min train ride from the CBD. And near Bordy too - what more could you ask! :lol: I will have to work as well to live more comfortably but that's because we lived in a cheap area in the UK so our house didn't fetch loads to bring across loads of equity. |

many thanks for all your comments, i never said i earned 100k in the u.k. but i am on about 40k with overtime this can go to 60k, the job offer in oz is 75oz dollars and i will get the chance to earn overtime and bonus, some friends of mine live around the doreen,geelong areas outside of melbourne so this is where i wouldlive to base myself, i am told it is 30 mins to the beach, 30 mins into melbourne and 20 mins to my plade of work which sounds good to me, i will have a look around melbourne before i make a decision, me and the kids are up for it but my wife needs convincing. My lifestyle in the u.k. is not good, always broke, work to hard, no holidays, not many nights out, thats why i want a change. once again thanks for all your thoughts they really help.
